Music Year In Review Part 2

So as promised, Part 2 of my year in review for music, which is really nothing more than me listing my favorite albums and songs, so feel free to check out my favorites and add your own in the comments.

Chris’ favorite albums of 2013

“Random Access Memories,” Daft Punk – Daft Punk showed the hell off with this concept album giving a nod to sounds from the past, with guest appearances from 70s and 80s hitmakers Nile Rodgers and Giorgio Moroder standing out, and “Get Lucky” was the party anthem of 2013 – because that’s what we all want anyway, right

“Feel Good,” The Internet – another Odd Future subgroup, this time headlined by Syd The Kid and Matt Martians, The Internet jammed the last half of 2013 with a new-age funk and jazz groove of an album that reminds me a lot of Stevie Wonder’s Music of my mind. That’s not a comparison, just my opinion. I listen to the album at least twice a week and I’m glad I do. It’s THAT damn good

“The 20/20 Experience Part I,” Justin Timberlake – The 2nd installment of this album didn’t impress many, but maybe because the first one was so dope, nobody really paid attention to the second. Either way, the First 20/20 Experience reinforced Timbaland’s standing as a dope producer and Timberlake’s star power in the pop and R&B world.

“King Remembered In Time,” Big KRIT – KRIT released another FIRE free album while he began work on his second retail album, which he says will feature more outside production. Folks better enjoy his self-produced efforts, especially “King Remembered In Time” as he continues to blend influences from Outkast to UGK with soul and style.

“Is your love big enough,” Lianne La Havas – Coming to us from jolly ol’ England, Lianna La Havas’ sexiness, songwriting and guitar chops are evident on the album “Is your love big enough,” an exploration of love, emotions and feelings set to folk rock and jazzy instrumentals.

Favorite video of 2013 – “Power Trip,” J. Cole

J. Cole tried. Honest. His lead single from his second album fought the stigma that he can’t make pulsating records and the video for “Power Trip” is even more powerful than the song that features Miguel, Miguel’s girl who is the object of Cole World’s affections and a strong silent homeboy who figures in at the video’s macabre conclusion. Have a look for yourself (WARNING: BOOBS AND BOOTY ON DISPLAY. NSFW).
